🔧 Casting Brass Y-Strainer – Technical Details 1. Description

A brass Y-strainer is a pipeline filtration device designed to remove unwanted solids (sand, scale, rust, debris) from flowing fluids.
The Y-shaped body allows debris to collect in the screen while maintaining flow with relatively low pressure drop.

2. Body Construction

• Body Material:

  • Cast Brass (IS 319 / CW617N / ASTM B62 / ASTM B584 – depending on standard)

• Cap / Plug:

  • Brass or bronze threaded cap

• Screen / Mesh:

  • Stainless Steel (SS304 / SS316) or brass wire mesh

3. Size Range

• Nominal Sizes:

  • ½″ to 4″ (DN15 to DN100) – standard

  • Larger sizes available in fabricated or flanged versions

  • BSP / BSPT / NPT (Female or Male)

• Flanged (optional):

  • ANSI / DIN / IS standards (less common in cast brass)

• Standard Mesh Sizes:

• Perforated Screen Option:

  • Hole size typically 1–3 mm for coarse filtration

• Mesh is removable and washable

  • Some designs rated up to 20–25 bar at ambient temperature

• Test Pressure:

7. Temperature Range

• Operating Temperature:

  • 0 °C to 120 °C (standard brass)

  • Limited by seal/gasket material (PTFE or rubber)

• Not recommended for high-temperature steam above limits

8. Flow Direction

• Must be installed in direction of flow arrow on body

• Screen pocket faces downward or sideways for effective debris collection
